Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said he is not bothered about recent comments made by Jorge Valdano.

In his new book released this week, Valdano said he had never heard anything from Mourinho worth remembering and that the Portuguese is perfect for today’s headline-seeking days as he has a massive ego.

He also discussed Mourinho’s failure to land the Champions League trophy in his three years at the club – the top priority for Madrid. And to further insult the Chelsea boss, who has failed to win a trophy of any kind in two years, Valdano said his achievements in the game paled in comparison to arch-rival Pep Guardiola.

The pair worked together briefly when Mourinho was in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu. But in a bid to win more control at the club and have the ultimate power, Mourinho persuaded Florentino Perez to sack Valdano, who was the director general at the club.

Mourinho was asked at a press conference why Valdano would make such comments about him, to which he said the main reason was to sell books. And he told reporters he wasn’t bothered about the episode.

“Because he needs to make money and sell books. I have no problems with that. I accept it. It’s fair. No, I wasn’t bothered,” Mourinho said.
