Daniel Carvajal has said the Real Madrid players are disappointed not to have taken the fight for La Liga down to the final day of the season, but must focus all their energies on the Champions League.

Los Blancs came from 2-0 down at home to Valencia to draw 2-2. A point wasn’t enough though to exert any more pressure on Barcelona, who won earlier on in the day, and now find themselves four points clear with two matches remaining.

The right back took time out to talk to journalists after the match, and said the players must put their reputations on the line now on Wednesday as the holders of the Champions League must overturn a 2-1 deficit against Juventus if they are to reach the final in Berlin.

“The team stood up to be counted, the fans got behind us and we fought right to the last minute. We take heart going into Wednesday’s match. At home we couldn’t slip up, we’ve done that and we say goodbye to the league. It’s painful because we wanted to fight until the final day, though we’ll keep on doing that,” he said.

And he added: “Our reputations are on the line against Juve and the crowd will be spectacular and will be our twelfth man. Today we put in a shift for the full 90 minutes, we ran, fought, and if you don’t put it in it ends up taking its toll, but on Wednesday we’re going to go all out. The crowd got behind us and didn’t give in at any point.”
