Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said the club will always be in his heart following his move to Juventus.
The German international agreed a Bosman transfer to the Turin side after failing to agree a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. And he told reporters this week the decision to leave the Spanish capital after five years wasn’t easy but that he wanted a new challenge.
Khedira joined Madrid in 2010 and was a key member of the side for three years. But a serious knee injury in 2013 halted his progress and following the arrival of Toni Kroos, he was used sparingly by Carlo Ancelotti last summer.
“It was no easy decision (to leave Madrid), that’s no secret. But it is easier when you are the one who decides,” he stated.
And he added: “While I was injured I thought about how and where I would continue my career. Half a year ago it was clear that I wanted a new challenge. It was no decision against Madrid but a decision for something new.
“I did everything for the club for five years, and I hope that people acknowledge that. Real Madrid is in my heart and it will stay there forever.”
