Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said he’s looking forward to coming up against Zinedine Zidane this weekend as Liverpool Legends take on Real Madrid Legends in a charity fundraisers.

Iconic names from down the years will take to the pitch at the Sanitago Bernebeu allowing fans to catch a glimpse of the former stars.

And speaking ahead of the match, Carragher admitted that while the fundraising is the most important aspect and the final score irrelevant, the players will still be nervous before kick off.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “You don’t play too often and you don’t want to embarrass yourself, and it’s also taking you back to your playing days. Nobody will want to go out there and embarrass themselves, of course, and touch wood it doesn’t happen.”

Speaking about coming up against 1998 World Cup winner Zidane again, he stated: You’re playing against some world-class former players and I played alongside Zidane in a charity game 12 months ago and he was the best player on the pitch, even then.

“I’m sure Zidane is looking after himself, he trains the [Real] B team so he’s training every day. Fingers crossed the lads have been looking after themselves the last couple of weeks!”
