Javier Hernandez has said there are no words to describe what a great professional Cristiano Ronaldo is and that he is grateful for being able to spent a year at Real Madrid learning from the Ballon d’Or winner.
The Mexican striker has returned to Manchester United after Los Blancos decided not to take up the option to sign him. He started just seven league games in a season of frustration overall for Hernandez.
But speaking to Univision, the 27-year-old said he enjoyed working alongside Ronaldo. “Cristiano is a great player. There are no words to describe him. He is a clear example that hard work pays off. The season at Real Madrid was one full of learning. It helped me find myself again as a player. I was on the bench a lot, which was frustrating because I was not important,” he said.
Despite not featuring as much as he’d have liked, Hernandez is a popular figure at Real, and won the fans over with his last minute effort to knock rivals Atletico de Madrid out of the Champions League – something he said is his personal highlight from his year in the Spanish capital.
“The goal against Atletico was a big relief because it was a difficult year and I had so few opportunities,” he commented.
