Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas says the players and fans must get behind boss Rafa Benitez and show solidarity as the season progresses.
Los Blancos routed Rayo Vallecano yesterday 10-2 – the first time a team has scored double figures in a top flight game in Spain since 1960.
But it wasn’t rosy throughout as the visitors took a shock 2-1 lead early on, prompting many Madridistas to show their anger.
Having lost three of their past five league games and with doubts about the long-term future at the club, Benitez has been under big pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But Costa Rican shot stopper Navas urged everyone associated with the club to get behind the manager and pull in the right direction to help the club get back on top in the league.
“As a keeper you always want to keep a clean sheet. We must turn the page and move on. We started the game well, scored, but then lost concentration and intensity. Later we took control of the game and won well. It’s normal for fans to be like this as we are not top of the table. We are all with the coach – this is a moment for all at Madrid to be united,” he told reporters after the match.
