Raphael Varane says the Real Madrid players have picked up Zinedine Zidane’s ideas quickly and are enjoying playing for their new boss.
The Frenchman took over from Rafa Benitez at the start of last month after the former Liverpool, Inter Milan and Napoli manager was fired after just seven months.
In his four games in charge, Los Blancos have won three and drawn one, scoring 17 goals along the way. On Sunday, they thrashed Espanyol 6-0 to close the gap on leaders Barcelona to four points again.
Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Varane said the players had quickly adapted to Zidane’s ideas and methods.
“We’re grasping the manager’s ideas faster & better. We carry that philosophy on to the pitch and its shows with our display. Hopefully we can continue playing like this. We play more offensive now and recover the ball higher up the pitch. These three week we’ve done strong physical work to build resistance & intensity. We feel better and it shows how fresh we are,” he commented.
Asked about whether Real still have a realistic chance of overhauling Barcelona in the league, the France international said the players will give their all between now and the end of the season.
“We’re professionals and always try to do our best. We’ll fight until the end adn see if we can win any titles,” he responded.
