Pep Guardiola will try to lure Raphael Varane to join him at Manchester City next summer according to reports from Spain.
The Spanish manager has started planning his future project in the Premier League and he has reportedly set his eyes on the Real Madrid defender.
The current Bayern Munich boss believes the defence is City’s main weakness and wants to bring several players to reinforce it.
Varane is not a guaranteed starter at Real Madrid at the moment, as Zinedine Zidane seems to rely more on Pepe every time the Portuguese is fit. However, the French defender has had an important role at Real Madrid this season and it seems highly unlikely that he will be willing to leave the club.
Furthermore, there is little chance Zidane and Florentino Perez will let the 22-year-old go, as they see him as the future leader of Los Blancos defence.
Varane signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2011 on a 10-million-euro deal. He has a running contract with Los Merengues until 2020, with a buy-out clause close to 100 million euros.
