Real Madrid’s doctors have decided that the midfielder should rest and undergo surgery this summer in order to be perfectly fit for next season.
The 31-year-old has spent a few weeks undergoing rehab and treatment, but he has not recovered as well as doctors expected.
This has caused that Vicente del Bosque has been forced to leave Alonso out of the squad for the Confederations Cup that in Brazil this month.
Spanish national team manager also left Beñat and Javi Garcia out from the definitive list of players that will travel to Brazil.
Four Los Blancos players will be part of the squad: Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Raul Albiol and Sergio Ramos. Real Madrid homegrown Roberto Soldado was also picked.
