Former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a parting shot at Cristiano Ronaldo, saying the Portuguese forward “thinks he knows it all” and “can not handle criticism”.
The 50-year-old boss, who left Madrid after a three-year stay to rejoin former club Chelsea, spoke on Spanish television show Punto Pelota in which he revealed a rift between him and the star striker.
Ronaldo, who signed for Madrid in 2009 for a world record 95 million euros, reached the 200-goal landmark for Los Blancos in just 199 games.
Mourinho said that while Ronaldo was one of the best players in the world, he had tried to coach him to make him even better, but was shunned in his attempts.
He stated: “I had only one problem with him, very simple, very basic, which was when a coach criticises a player from a tactical viewpoint trying to improve what in my view could have been improved.
“And at that moment he didn’t take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him to develop more.”
