The clash Real Madrid v Napoli will be very special for José Callejón. The Spaniard attacker played with Los Blancos only two years but he was one of the favourite players for the supporters and he has always said that he is a madridista. Besides, he played several year in the young squads of the team.
Callejón left Real Madrid in 2013 and Napoli paid Los Blancos €9,5M. Rafa Benítez, the coach of the Italian team by then, wanted the winger and Napoli paid a high transfer fee. His change to the Italian football was very positive and he’s been an important player for Napoli since then.
In these four seasons in Calcio, Callejón won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Supercup in 2014 and he was runner-up in Serie A in 2016, obtaining the qualification to play in this Champions League. In this time, he has scored 41 goals in Serie A and his first season was the best in the club. .
Callejón is very happy in Italy and he’s looking forward to the game at Santiago Bernabéu: “I have strange feelings. Joy because I’m going back to what I call my home, but I didn’t want to meet with them so early, because they are the defending champions. But, for sure, it will be a special game”, CAllejón said to UEFA.
He was also asked about his opinion of the best player in the world. Callejón has no doubts: “For me, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo, because I consider him the most complete player currently”, the winger said. One of his favourite players is also Portuguese: “It was Luis Figo, because he played more or less in my role and I always loved him”.
Callejón also spoke about the “good memories” he had about the Champions League when he was playing with Real Madrid. Unfortunately, Callejón couldn’t lift the title with Los Blancos. He remembers watching the games “with my brother Juanmi, with one ball each one”, the Napoli attacker said.
