Keylor Navas is not living his best moment since his arrival to Real Madrid. The Costa Rican keeper didn’t play last match against Espanyol in the regular season and it seems there are certain doubts with his last performances against Sevilla and Napoli. He has been in the usual line-up since Iker Casilla’s departure, but there has always been the potential arrival of David De Gea in the background.
In fact, in the summer of 2015 the Costa Rican almost signed with Manchester United because De Gea was going to be Los Blancos keeper. Finally Keylor Navas stayed at Madrid and he did his best season, being one of the most important players in the squad. In the current season, Keylor started injured and nowadays he is not showing the same level as two years ago. Maybe that’s why Zinedine Zidane decided to introduce Kiko Casilla in the starting 11 against Espanyol in the regular season.
Keylor Navas has had several errors in the current season, highlighting the goal received from Stefan Jovetic in the last minutes in La Liga’s match against Sevilla and the one he received this week from Lorenzo Insigne in the first leg of the Last 16 Round of Champions League. The Costa Rican keeper doesn’t transmit the same security as before and that is reflected in the goals Real Madrid have conceded in this season.
Los Blancos have not kept a clean sheet in all Champions League’s games played this season (six with Keylor Navas between the sticks). Real Madrid’s goals conceded average in this competition is 1.67 per game. With this statistics is very difficult to win the Champions League and that’s why Keylor Navas must improve in the next games. The Costa Rican player does not seem to be focused and this may be due to the numerous rumours about David De Gea or Thibaut Courtois signings at the end of the season.
