The second line showed at Riazor that they are able to play better than the usual line-up. The journalists call the second line of Real Madrid to Isco, James Rodríguez, Mateo Kovacic, Álvaro Morata or Danilo. Let’s say, the players who are on the bench in the big games but show off every time they have a chance.
In the four last important games of the season -Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and the Champions League quarter-finals- only Isco had the opportunity to start in the second leg against Bayern Múnich because Gareth Bale was injured. The others had to wait their opportunity on the bench. Actually, Álvaro Morata, for instance, didn’t play any minute in these games, but he was able to score the opening goal at Riazor in the first minute.
A lot of supporters claim that these players should have the opportunity to start in the big games. Especially when some of the usual players in the line-up are not really fit. Zidane’s mistake in El Clásico was introducing Gareth Bale from the beginning when the Welshman came back from an injury. Now, Bale will miss the semi-finals of the Champions League and Zidane wasted a substitution. Besides, Isco or Asensio are showing a greater level than the British winger, so they deserve to play.
The same applies for Karim Benzema. The French striker was showing a great quality during the month of March, but his game hasn’t been consistent during the season. Meanwhile, Morata is on the bench and he scores every time he has the chance. If the things don’t change, the Spaniard will leave again Madrid and Los Blancos will regret it because he’s a young and talented striker.
Luka Modric is not at his best as well, so Isco, Kovacic or James could play in this role in the games to come. With a crucial month of May to come, Zinedine Zidane should think about giving more opportunities to these players because they’ve earned it with their effort. Will Zidane be brave enough to put these youngsters in the line-up? We’ll see in the following games.
I particularly wonder why Benzema, despite his deep form future regularly at the expense of Morata. Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid are not fair to Morata
This young lad need to be given chance to prove himself in big matches
