Reports on Tuesday have suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo has rejected a new contract at Real Madrid and has decided that he wants to leave the club in the summer.
The Portuguese star already has a contract to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2021, but there are now rumours suggesting he is unhappy at the club and has demanded a transfer. Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, who works for TV station El Chiringuito, says that Ronaldo has informed Real Madrid president Florentino Perez of his decision.
It should come as no surprise that the club are rumoured to have rejected this demand, which the reports suggest have only angered Ronaldo even more. The issue appears to be that Cristiano ‘doesn’t feel appreciated’ at Real and that he is not valued high enough. His relationship with the fans is still in tact, but he has fallen out with the club’s hierarchy.
Real Madrid To Lose Their Key Star?
Ronaldo signed a new contract only last year and has reportedly rejected the offer of a renewed contract recently.
When he was asked earlier this month whether he was expecting to sign a new deal with Madrid, Ronaldo told beIN Sports:
‘I don’t want to renew. I don’t want to renew.
‘I’m very happy with the contract I have.’
It has not been the easiest start to the season, and by his own high standards Cristiano has not performed at his usual level. It has been a busy few weeks for the superstar too, as he recently became a father again with the birth of a baby girl.
After the international break is over, Los Blancos face one of the biggest games of the season away at city rivals Atletico Madrid. Though Ronaldo has cut a frustrated figure recently, Real Madrid fans will hope he can find form yet again in this crucial match.
Having scored only once in La Liga so far this season, Cristiano will be desperate to get on the scoresheet again. Whether the rumours of him wanting out are true or not remain to be seen but one thing is for sure, while he is still in a Real shirt Ronaldo will continue to give 100%.
