Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed in an interview with Spanish sports newspaper As that the club is planning a 400-million-euros renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu.
Perez is willing to turn Los Blancos stadium into a complex with an overhaul of facilities, such as a modern shopping centre, a hotel, and he also wants to include the installation of a fully-retractable roof. Despite all this improvements, Perez maintains the price of tickets will not go up as a result.
“Our agreement with the Madrid Council was subject to an appeal and a judge put in place a temporary stay on proceedings, but that’s now been lifted by a higher court so we can now go back to the architects for revised plans. It’s going to be a spectacular stadium, fully covered and air conditioned.”
Perez admitted the club will need a loan to fund the renovation of the stadium, although he stated that the new Bernabeu “will bring in 80 million euros a year in revenue”.
This announcement came together with Perez’s confirmation that his plans to build the Real Madrid Resort Island in Abu Dhabi have been put on hold due to the lack of funding from investors.
