Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho claims Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is the “most professional” player in football and that he took advantage of his stardom.
When interviewed by France Football, the former Los Blancos said: “there is no other player more professional. Being at a club with Cristiano Ronaldo is the best thing to have happened to me.
“Why? Because if I let him pass ahead of me he would be mobbed immediately, and I would be free to pass by in no hurry.”
Mourinho worked with his compatriot for three years, winning the Spanish League title and the Copa del Rey before returning to Stamford Bridge last summer.
The former Manchester United star is one of the favourites to land the 2013 Fifa Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in January.
So far this season Cristiano Ronaldo has been in sensational form at club level, scoring 24 goals and providing seven assists in 17 matches.
The 28-year-old will be hoping to continue that excellent run into Portugal’s World Cup qualification play-off against Sweden, the first leg to be played in Lisbon on Friday.
