Sami Khedira’s long-term injury could force Real Madrid to make an unexpected signing in the next few weeks. Two names have already come up as the German’s possible substitutes: Nemanja Matic and Blaisse Matuidi.
The Serbian was already linked to a Madrid move last summer. According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha, Los Blancos could make a bid for Benfica’s midfielder in the winter transfer market. The deal would include either Fabio Coentrao or Ezequiel Garay’s rights, since Real still part-own the Las Aguilas defender.
The Portuguese paper points out Garay’s buy-out clause is 50 million euros and there are a number of European clubs interested in signing him, such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Napoli. That could turn into an obstacle to bring Matic’s negotiations to a good end.
Meanwhile, Spanish website Fichajes.net claims Carlo Ancelotti has already asked Florentino Perez to sign Paris Saint Germain’s midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
According to reports, the Frenchman is not happy with his role at PSG and would have no doubts in moving to Madrid if an offer arrived. He also keeps a good relationship with Ancelotti, after they coincided last season at the French club.
However, Matuidi’s signing would be very expensive, since his club would ask for no less than 30 million euros. Moreover, the French international wouldn’t be able to play the Champions League, since he has already participated this season -Matic would also have that problem.
Thus, Matuidi’s option seems to be the most complicated. In case they were to sign any player, Los Blancos directors would seek for a cheap provisional transfer, as they count on Khedira for next season.
