Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has said the headline he wants to read on May 25 is that Real Madrid have completed the treble.
Los Blancos take on Schalke in the first-leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday, and although the World Cup winner admitted the German outfit will prove to be a tough opponent, he is confident the team can make it all the way to the final in Lisbon on May 24 and win the club’s 10th European crown.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are top of La Liga, and take on Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey in April, and Casillas says he wants to complete a trophy haul this year.
Speaking in an interview with Bwin, the 32-year-old stated: “I’d like the last piece of news for this season to say that Real Madrid had won the treble. We know it is difficult because there are other teams that also want to win titles. But we are where we want to be right now, which is fighting in all three competitions.”
He also picked out former teammate Klaas Jan Huntelaar as a dangerous weapon in Schalke’s attack, but insisted Real Madrid have enough quality in defence to cope.
“They have one player, Huntelaar, who recently recovered from a serious injury, and I think they are dangerous rivals. We are solid in attack, with decisive players who are in good form and that has to be our style: to maintain the defensive line with the help of the rest of the team, while trying to score a goal ourselves in every chance that we get,” he said.
