Real Madrid take on Malaga at the weekend in a game that Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has called a ‘cup final’.
But the Madrid press has yet to fully shift its attention to that match on the south coast of Spain, and today we have news on the front cover of AS of a personal award for Ancelotti. The Italian boss was named as the winner of this year’s Enzo Bearzot prize, a prestigious award named after the man who led Italy to World Cup glory in 1982.
The award recognises career success, and a panel of judges decided Ancelotti was a worthy winner this year. It has previously been won by Prandelli, Mazzarri and Montella.
In a statement, the judges said: “He is one of the few people to have won the Champions League and World Club Cup as a player and manager. He’s won titles in Italy, England and France.”
They went on to praise Ancelotti for his humility and dignity, as well as his paternal approach to his players that brings out the best in themm
Elsewhere, Isco could fill in the role of Angel di Maria against his old club this weekend, while Alvaro Arbeloa could be out of the side for more than the six weeks predicted earlier this week.
