Former Real Madrid player, manager and director Jorge Valdano has said Cristiano Ronaldo can stay at the top of the game for many years to come.

The Portugal forward has started the campaign in sensational form and has scored eight goals in his last three La Liga outings.

His form for Real since he arrived in the Spanish capital in 2009 has been nothing short of exceptional and he has scored 50 club goals or more each season for the last four years.

With the forward turning 30 in February, there will be thoughts about the player entering the latter stages of his career. But Valdano said Ronaldo can stay at the top for years to come.

Talking to Marca, he said: “Normally, age starts playing a role in football as you get older. But Ronaldo is exceptional on all counts, including this.

“Cristiano is a tremendous player. He is always looking for perfection and is incredibly ambitious, which only spurs on his teammates. This is worth a lot, just like all his goals.

“I think Ronaldo is the only player in the world who could play in each position in attack and be dominant regardless of where he plays. The shortest distance between two points is the distance between Ronaldo and the goal.”
