On the back of scoring Real Madrid’s final goal in the 5-0 defeat of Almeria on Saturday, Spain under-21 striker Alvaro Morata told the club’s official website of his gratitude towards manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The 21 year-old, who has already notched up eleven appearances so far this season, after he made a total of 15 last year, said: “I’m doing well and I’m grateful for the confidence the coach and the coaching staff have in me. I get a chance to score every time I play and, though I wasn’t lucky before, I was this time and I’m happy.”

Morata also believes the team, and himself, will continue to improve as the season goes on: “We’re understanding each other better little by little. There are several new players and we’re playing better every day.

“There are many teammates who always talk to me and give me a lot of advice. I try to learn from them all. I keep learning and I’m very happy every time I play in this shirt,” he added.

The Spaniard also downplayed worries over Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness, after the Los Blancos star left the match early: “It’s normal that he’s tired after the performance the other day [against Sweden]. He’s the best player in the world but he’s a normal person and he needs to take a break sometimes.”
