Marco Asensio made his debut as Real Madrid player as he came on for Isco in the 67th minute of the Audi Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old confessed it was a dream come true for him: “I’m very happy, making my debut for Real Madrid is a dream come true; everyone has congratulated me. I felt good, a little bit tired, but as we train and play matches I’ll get up to competitive speed.”
Asensio was signed by Real Madrid last winter but he stayed at Mallorca until the end of the season. Many clubs have shown an interest in signing him on loan, but the Spanish playmaker remains quiet.
“It’s a source of pride that so many teams are interested in a loan deal, but right now I’m focused on Madrid and we’ll see what happens. I’ve spoken to the coach and he told me to be calm, to focus on training well and then everything will be decided soon enough. I’ve come to Real Madrid to stay, I’m not looking beyond that.”
It seems highly unlikely that he will stay at Real Madrid, given the high competition in his position, but Asensio believes he can adapt to other roles: “There are lots of players who play at number 10, but I’m a versatile player who can also play up front or out wide. I have to carry on like this so that things continue to go well.”
