Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has said his side will be ready for the European Super Cup against Sevilla and is not disappointed with how the USA turned out.
Los Blancos lost 3-1 to Manchester United on Saturday night, meaning they ended their two-week stint in the US with two defeats and a draw.
But Italian boss Ancelotti, who guided the side to success in the Champions League and Copa del Rey in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, said the tour was more about getting ready for the challenges that lie ahead rather than the results themselves.
Speaking at his press conference after the match, Ancelotti said: “We needed these games to help our preparation. We’re not happy with the defeat. But in seven days’ time we’re playing the Super Cup and we have to continue to prepare ourselves. Today we lacked intensity. The team wasn’t compact enough. We were missing something.”
He also said he is happy with his transfer business so far this summer, and by the time the Super Cup is played against Sevilla, the team will have Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez available. He also revealed Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to play in the match, which is why he was given a 20 minute cameo in Michigan to get him up to match fitness.
“I have a stronger squad than last year so I’m very happy. Kroos and James will improve the group. Cristiano’s determined to play in the Super Cup, that’s why I gave him 20 minutes. There’s no reason to worry about his fitness; we’ll prepare him well and there’s no cause for concern,” Ancelotti stated.
Frankly I am not satisfy with the team performance Durant the U.S tour. I may understand that the Real couldn’t score goals to win its games, because it was only Bale on the attack; but it inadmissible to see the team encase so many goals with only one key player(Marcelo) missing on the defensive side. So to me, Ancelotti and his squad have a lot to put together before the super copa. Of course, on the paper the Real team seems to be irresistible when all the players will be available. But how these great players will melt in one pot to form a complete and firing team?
