Colombian football legend Carlos Valderrama has said on a visit to Madrid that the whole South American nation is behind James Rodriguez.
The former midfielder, famous for having his long curly blonde hair, was in the Spanish capital attending a tourism fair and decided to pop into the Real Madrid training ground to see his compatriot.
And speaking on the club’s official website, Valderrama said the 23-year-old summer signing from Monaco had impressed many with how quickly he has settled into life at the 10-time Champions League winners.
James, a star at the summer’s World Cup for Colombia, has netted 10 times in all competitions and helped the side to top place in La Liga.
Valderrama stated: “We are at the Tourism Fair, representing Colombia and we wanted to come and see him, give him our support and tell him that Colombia is really behind him. We have to congratulate him for everything he is doing.”
He continued: “He adapted quickly to the group and has done really well. That puts him at ease so he can show all of his quality. He is young, he is learning and he arrived at a club where he can learn a lot more, in a great team, and at a great club. He has shown his quality. We belong to different generations. He was a child during my time and now he is our star and we will always follow him. We are shared idols, and we really hope that he can continue to grow and make our country happy.”
