Two times European champions. This is a great season for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe, who who the Euro2016 in Paris after beating France in the extra time thanks to a great goal scored by Éder only ten minutes ahead of the final whistle.
It was not an easy night for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid striker had all the responsibility on his shoulders after bringing Portugal to their second continental final in their history. However, Cristiano suffered a knee injury in the 15th minute of the game. He tried several times to come back but he wasn’t able to run properly and he was substituted by Quaresma in the first half.
With tears in his eyes, Cristiano Ronaldo had to leave the pitch and trust their colleagues. He stayed the first half in the dressing room but came back to the bench in the second half as a captain to cheer their team mates up. It worked.
In the meantime, the other Real Madrid player in the pitch, Pepe, was one of the best footballers in Saint Denis. The full back was very strong in the defence along José Fonte and both worked really hard to keep the French team away from Rui Patricio. Pepe has performed a great tournament and fulfilled a great season after starting the year on the bench. He was a key player in the 11th Champions League and in the Euro 2016 for Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe jumped and shouted after seeing how Éder could score from outside the box the decisive goal in the minute 109th. Portugal became for the first time European winner with Cristiano Ronaldo as a captain and Pepe as the best defender.
Now, the Real Madrid striker has even closer the Ballon d’Or title. He won the very same season the Champions League and the Euro with a really important role in both trophies.
