Daniel Carvajal says he is looking forward to his battle with new arrival Danilo this season for the right back spot at Real Madrid.
Carvajal established himself as an important member of the team under Carlo Ancelotti last season, moving ahead of Alvaro Arbeloa in the starting line up and impressing many with his bursting runs forward.
But Real splashed out 30 million euros on Danilo from Porto earlier this year and he arrived at the club in July having sat out Brazil’s Copa America adventure through injury.
Both players played a half each in the 4-1 win over Manchester City in Melbourne on Friday night and speaking afterwards, Carvajal said competition for places in the line up is healthy and he’s looking forward to it as it will make him a better player.
“It’s one more challenge. But it’s a motivation for me to improve daily. Danilo is one of the best defenders in the world,” the 23-year-old told reporters.
Cavajal, who re-joined Madrid from Bayer Leverkusen two years ago, added: “He’s a great kid and he’s fun to be around. He is a huge asset and that is why they brought him in, so that we can compete for the [full-back] position and (help) Madrid win a title.”
