Real Madrid right back Daniel Carvajal says the is more to come from the players after the beat Espanyol 6-0.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick against the Catalan outfit while James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema also got on the scoresheet in another emphatic win for Zinedine Zidane’s team. Real lie four points behind Barcelona in the league and a point behind second-placed Atletico de Madrid.
Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, the right back said the players will keep on fighting for every point. He also said while progress has been made under Zidane, it will take another couple of weeks to reach their best.
“Until its mathematically impossible to win the league, we’ll keep fighting. We try to measure ourselves with the immense figure of mister Zidane. Within two weeks we will achieve our optimum level.”
Quizzed about Real’s slow start to the campaign and why they never really hit top gear, Carvajal said the pre-season trips to Australia and China were perhaps not the ideal preparation.
“Maybe it wasn’t the most ideal preseason we could’ve had with all the traveling and few training sessions.”
The Spain international also touched on his rivalry with Danilo for the right back spot and praised the Brazilian for the form he has shown in recent games.
“Against Betis, Danilo played well. Everyone has to contribute and help each other. We go out to give our maximum on the pitch,” he stated.
