Real Sociedad boss David Moyes has leapt to the defence of Gareth Bale after the Welshman was booed by some Real Madrid fans on Saturday afternoon.
Los Blancos beat the Basque outfit 4-1, and Bale grabbed an assist for Karim Benzema. But the 25-year-old forward was guilty of a couple of glaring misses.
The first was from six yards out, in front of goal. He took the ball from James Rodriguez’ feet and somehow managed to put his effort wide with the goal gaping. In the second half, Bale raced clear with just the keeper to beat but once again failed to hit the back of the net.
Some sections of the crowd decided to jeer Bale for missing those opportunities despite putting in a performance full of running and effort.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti defended his player in his press conference after the game, and Moyes also commented on the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur man.
“Gareth Bale is a fantastic player,” said Moyes. “He had a couple of chances to score and there is nothing to worry about him. I’m sure he will be someone great.”
Bale has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Los Blancos this season and has played a key role in helping the side with the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
