Iker Casillas will not return in goal for Real Madrid’s league game against Rayo Vallecano, Carlo Ancelotti has said.
In various polls carried out by Marca and AS in recent days, the majority of Madrid fans want to see the World Cup winner back between the sticks at the Santiago Bernabeu rather than the incumbent Diego Lopez.
The current number one has put in some unconvincing displays of late, and has shipped six goals in his last two games. He has also been at fault for some of the goals Madrid have conceded in big games this season – notably the second in Los Blancos’ 2-2 draw with Atletico de Madrid at the Vicente Calderon last month.
But speaking to the press ahead of the game against their local rivals Rayo, Ancelotti said Lopez would continue to play in La Liga fixtures while Casillas will get his starts in the cup games – a policy first started by former boss Jose Mourinho last season.
Ancelotti stated: “It’s an issue we’ve spoken about before and the situation’s very clear. Diego López is doing well, like Iker when he’s played. Tomorrow Diego López will play and Casillas on Wednesday. It is a debate for outsiders, not one for us here.”
I don’t understand Carlo’s decision,any manager would want to put out their best XI on the field so if someone is not performing well chuck him no matter who he is.So why does he want to give a chance to blundering Lopez time and again when we have Iker on sublime form……….RM have not lost a SINGLE MATCH this season when Iker plays.Casillas has also not conceded a single goal in the Copa Del Rey in which we played good offensive teams like Atletico,Osasuna,etc. Just compare results in the Copa and La Liga against same opponents.Someone care to explain?
I totally agree. Casillas is a legend. you cannot just restrict him from playing as much games as he can for some goalkeeper from nowhere. Diego has done pretty well but he just doesnt have what it takes to keep madrid at the top. We want casillas!
True,why did we even buy Lopez in the first place what has he achieved in his career.If Casillas was injured or not performing we would need someone who can really replace him , plenty of good keepers were available like Julio Cesar for a start.Lopez is definitely not a long term replacement for Iker he simply cannot thrive under the pressure at the Bernabeu.

RM is a political club not just a futball club…the managerial board just want to force casillas out and bring in a young stopper,,,lopez rather is just a guinea pig for their mission…san.iker remains the best and they know it,that is why dey use him 4d champions league matches as they ar hungry for the la decima
