Atletico de Madrid boss Diego Simeone has named Real Madrid as the favourites to win the La Liga title next season.
The Argentinean lead his side to league success in 2013-14 after a remarkable campaign that also saw the Vicente Calderon side reach the Champions League final. This year, Luis Enrique guided Barcelona to the title. The Catalan outfit then went on to record their second treble in six years, winning the Champions League and Copa del Rey too.
Los Blancos meanwhile have won only one league title in the past seven years, a stat that is not good enough for a club of its stature. Carlo Ancelotti paid the price for the failure to win the league this season and was replaced last week by Rafa Benitez, who will be under huge pressure to deliver first time round.
Speaking to AS, Simeone said Real will be determined to win La Liga next season having not won it often enough in recent years.
“Dangerously complicated for any team other than Real Madrid because it can’t happen that Real Madrid wins only one league after seven years. So, I see [the Liga title race] dangerously prepared for Real Madrid, sadly,” the Rojiblancos boss stated.
