Real Madrid’s summer signing James Rodriguez has said he is delighted to have picked up his first winners medal as a Los Blancos player less than a fortnight into his career in Madrid.
The Colombian playmaker made his debut in the 2-0 win over Sevilla on Tuesday night as Los Blancos won the European Super Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the headlines, scoring both goals and proving he is back to full fitness after an injury plagued end to the last campaign.
James, who was the top scorer at the World Cup in Brazil with six goals in five matches, joined the club in an 80-million-euro deal from Monaco in France. He only returned to pre-season training 12 days ago, but looked assured in the match against Sevilla, particularly in the second half.
Speaking to journalists after the game, the 22-year-old said: “I am happy that we have won this title and I hope it is the first of many. I felt great. I’ve barely been training 11 days and I’m adapting quickly to the team.”
He also added that he is delighted to be playing at the club as he has the chance to play alongside so many great players.
“Playing alongside so many stars is really special and is always a pleasure. I’m also really happy about the support from the fans, we will always give them our all,” James stated.
