Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has said talk of him leaving the club over the summer to switch to Arsenal made him laugh adding he had no intention of leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.
The France striker was subject of interest from the 12 time FA Cup winners although a concrete bid never materialised.
It is not the first time Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has tried to lure his compatriot to north London having attempted to sign him when he left Lyon for Los Blancos in 2009.
In an interview with Journal du Dimanche, Benzema said he laughed about the speculation with his brother and added he never wants to leave Real Madrid.
“Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours. In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave? I’m a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it’s that simple,” he commented.
Benzema has scored six goals in as many games for his club this season but missed the win over Levante at the weekend through injury. He will also sit out this week’s Champions League clash with PSG with a hamstring strain picked up on international duty.
