There’s one main story in the press this morning – Real Madrid winning the European Super Cup. Los Blancos defeated Sevilla 2-0 in Cardiff to lift their first piece of silverware this season.
And yet again, it is one man grabbing the main headlines – Cristiano Ronaldo. The 29-year-old showed he has recovered from his injury worries at the end of last season and during the World Cup netting both goals, one either side of half time. Marca goes witha picture of the Portuguese on its front cover and the headline simply reads “Machine”.
There are positive stories all round today – the press were impressed with the performance of Toni Kroos, who put in a masterful display in the centre of midfield, while James Rodriguez showed in flashes why Los Blancos paid so much for him following his World Cup exploits.
The big winner in the papers is Iker Casillas. Much derided for some below-par performances for Spain and in pre-season, and with the annual debate going on as to who should be the club’s number one, the captain put in a fine performance, making two or three excellent saves.
Elsewhere, there are reports Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward was in Cardiff to discuss a 60 million euro deal for winger Angel di Maria.
CR7 is back, he deserves better, all his trophies were well deserved ! Leaving everyone doubtless !!!
