Madrid sports daily Marca highlights today in their front page the fact that international friendlies have left Real Madrid’s midfield in trouble.
“A break and a scare,” they title, in a reference to Sami Khedira’s injury and Xabi Alonso contusion. The German tore his ligament in Germany’s friendly against Italy and will miss the rest of the season, while the Spaniard had to be replaced in the game at Equatorial Guinea due to a blow in his ankle.
The other main Madrid sports newspaper, As, reports that Khedira “had surgery yesterday and faces a six-month recovery period.”
Both papers emphasize Spain’s 1-2 victory over a very aggressive Equatorial Guinea. Xabi Alonso played 42 minutes before being substituted by Sergio Busquets and Sergio Ramos came in at the end of the match. Iker Casillas and Alvaro Arbeloa sit on the bench the whole game.
In other news, Marca reports Carlo Ancelotti’s biography will be published tomorrow and highlights one sentence from the book: “Florentino Perez knew how to convince me,” the Italian reveals.
