A group or Manchester United fans has launched a plan to lure Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford – by flying a light plane over El Madrigal this weekend with a message for him when Los Blancos visit Villarreal this weekend.
The group of supporters, United Reel, have paid around 5,000 euros for the plane to fly over the stadium with the message ‘Come home Ronaldo – United Reel’ on a trailing banner.
The 29-year-old, who has scored seven goals in his last two La Liga games for Real, moved from the Red Devils to the Spanish capital in 2009. He spent six hugely successful years in Manchester, where he helped the club win the Premier League and Champions League among a haul of various trophies.
The forward has made no secret of his desire to one day return to the north west of England but insists he is happy in Madrid for now. New United boss Louis Van Gaal has admitted he would love to bring Ronaldo back, but says it would be almost impossible to do so as Los Blancos are highly unlikely to want to part with their main asset.
A statement from United Reel explained the reason behind the banner plan.
“United Reel has active supporters on every continent of the world and we are all united by our love for Cristiano both as a footballer and as a person,” it read.
And it continued: “We stand united in our views and we won’t stop until we bring Ronaldo home. Members from all over the world have donated their own money and resources to fund a mid-game message, flown by plane, in a bid to demonstrate to Cristiano Ronaldo how much the United faithful still love and support him.”
We cant afford to loose cristiano now. Cristiano cannot leave madrid.
