Real Madrid won 1-4 in the 37th week of the regular season against Sevilla at Santiago Bernabéu. This was a very important match for the team managed by Zidane because it was the toughest regular season game Los Blancos will have in the games remaining. Zinedine Zidane decided to do some changes in the line-up respect the clash against Atlético Madrid highlighting Karim Benzema’s absence instead Álvaro Morata who was with Cristiano Ronaldo the reference in the attack. The French manager also introduced Nacho in the left back and Kovacic, James and Asensio in the midfield.
Sevilla started the game really good having the ball possession being superior to Real Madrid in the midfield, but in the 10th minute Nacho opened the score board with a fast free kick with none of Sevilla players ready that surprised to all the stadium. The team managed by Sampaoli was very angry with the referee but it was a legal goal. Only 10 minutes later Sevilla had a great chance to tie the match from a shot of Jovetic that finished in the bar. After two very clear chance of the Andalusian side, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the second goal for Los Blancos after a rejection of Sergio Rico where the Portuguese striker only had to push the ball.
Los Blancos were having several doubts to defend to Sevilla attackers and in the 30th minute Jovetic had another good chance to shorten the gap but once again finished in the bar. Los Blancos were conceding a lot of chances in the last minutes of the first half but Keylor Navas was having an excellent performance saving many clear opportunities. Los Blancos needed Casemiro in the pitch because nobody was giving the balance in the midfield and Sevilla was growing with the pass of the minutes.
The second half couldn’t start worse because Jovetic scored the first goal for Sevilla from a shot from outside the box, unstoppable for Keylor Navas. The Montenegrin had three clear chances in the first half but he did not miss this one. Zidane noticed that his team was suffering in the midfield and in the 60th minute he did two substitutions replacing James Rodríguez and Morata by Casemiro and Lucas Vázquez. The Colombian play maker left the pitch showing that it was maybe his last game at Santiago Bernabéu. With these two changes Los Blancos improved and they started to control for first time in all the match without conceding opportunities.
In the 71st minute Luka Modric replaced Kovacic with the aim of not suffering in the final stage of the game. In the 78th minute Cristiano scored the third goal for Real Madrid with his weaker left foot straight into the top corner. Only two minutes later Los Blancos received bad news because Nacho was booked and this means he will be suspended for the next game. In the 84th minute Kroos scored the fourth goal with a great finish and with this goal the game was over.
Los Blancos played a really complete game against a very difficult team as Sevilla and with Barcelona winning, this was a superb victory for Real Madrid and now they must play two finals against Celta Vigo and Málaga.
