Mateo Kovacic said during the World Cup that he wants to leave Real Madrid this summer. The Croatian midfielder feels that he has to play more minutes and, for this reason, he has asked the club to let him leave the Spanish capital this summer. Many clubs are interested in signing him, but Napoli is the team with more odds to get him.
Real Madrid signed Kovacic from Inter Milan in 2015 for €30M. Since his arrival, he’s been on the bench but he has played many important games, being a key player in the squad for Zinedine Zidane. For instance, the French coach put him on the pitch in the last El Clásico at Santiago Bernabéu or against Bayern Munich in the semifinals in May. However, the midfielder needs more minutes, something very difficult with Luka Modric or Toni Kroos ahead of him.
The club and Julen Lopetegui have to decide what to do with him. His contract expires in 2021, so they can negotiate a good exit or the new coach could try to convince him that he will be a very important player in the squad. Álvaro Morata lived a similar situation last summer and he finally left the club, signing for Chelsea.
There are several clubs interested in the midfielder, especially in Italy. His good time spent in Italy with Inter makes the Serie A the best choice for him. AS Roma were interested in the past, but now Napoli look very pushy to get him. Carlo Ancelotti, the new manager, knows him very well and could be the first important piece in his new project.
Real Madrid have some alternatives in the squad to cover Kovacic possible departure. Marcos Llorente or Dani Ceballos could be his replacement, however, both showed very little in the last season. This will be a very important loss for the squad, so try to convince him looks the best solution right now.
