Rafa Benitez has hit back at new Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce after he claimed the Los Blancos manager couldn’t claim the credit for Liverpool’s miraculous Champions League win in 2005.
The former Bolton, Blackburn, Newcastle and West Ham manager, who is known for his dull, long ball football that English teams typically played back in the dark ages, claimed Rafa Benitez is a sore loser – and that he gets particular enjoyment when his teams ever beat Benitez’.
Allardyce, who somehow believed he would one day become England manager – which would have been like watching a real life version of the film ‘Mike Bassett – England manager’, said is his new autobiography that Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 thanks to Steven Gerrard, adding Benitez should not get the credit.
When questioned by the Spanish radio station Onda Cero about he comments this week, Benitez hit back raising the issue of Allardyce’s lack of trophies in more than 20 years of football management.
“Do you know who Sam Allardyce is? Do you know how many trophies he has won? Well that’s my answer. It is what happens when someone has a book to sell. His opinion does not have a lot of value,” he stated. Exactly Rafa – we’re right with you!
