Real Madrid’s French defender Raphael Varane has hailed his team’s improving performance following the 5-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.
A Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick, his 23rd in Real Madrid colours, and a stike each from Karim Benzema and Sami Khedira ensured Los Blancos saw off the San Sebastian outfit with ease. Antonie Griezmann scored a consolation for the visitors.
Speaking to the media after the game, Varane, back to full fitness following a long-term injury sustained at the end of last season, said Carlo Ancelotti’s men were improving all the time and that there was more to come.
“The first half was very good in attack and defence. We are very proud of how we played. We always try to play like we did in the first half,” he stated, before adding special words of praise for Ronaldo. “He is special and spectacular, he gives his best in every match,” he said.
Asked about how far the team can go, Varane told reporters the team would take each game at a time, but the aim to to be successful at the end of the campaign in all competitions.
“We’re are improving the way that we are playing and we have to keep working hard to improve every day”, said Varane , who added “Maybe we relaxed a little but then the team reacted well and we scored another goal. We want to keep going in this direction and by playing with confidence and enjoying playing we can get even more out of ourselves.”
