Real Madrid kicked off their US tour with a comfortable 3-1 win over LA Galaxy thanks to a Karim Benzema double and an Angel di Maria strike.
Carlo Anceotti picked a strong side to take on the American side and was rewarded early on when Cristiano Ronaldo picked out di Maria with a lovely through ball for the Argentine to finish with aplomb.
The crowd of almost 39,000 enjoyed watching the stars on show and Ronaldo almost rose to the occasion twice, going close with long-range efforts before the break.
The Portuguese international was replaced by Benzema after the interval and it took the Frenchman just six minutes to grab his first goal. Isco played a perfect ball to the 25-year-old, who controlled the ball with his first touch before calmly dispatching the ball into the back of the net.
The home side did have their moment of glory when Galaxy’s Villarreal halved the lead after Denis Cheryshev failed to clear properly. But the two goal advantage was restored when Benzema headed home a di Maria cross to settle affairs.
Los Blancos will now take on Everton in the next stage of the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup.
