Real Madrid are keen to strengthen their scouting network with the capture of Francis Cagigao from Arsenal, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror and the Sun both claim the 45-year-old is wanted by Rafa Benitez as he looks to overhaul is scouting network and build on Real’s rich history of finding the best young talent in the world and turning them into first team stars.

And in Cagigao, they could find no better candidate. He is one of Arsenal’s head scouts and have a long history of unearthing real gems for Arsene Wenger to work with. He most famously brought then 15-year-old Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona’s youth team to Highbury. The Spaniard, of course, has gone to to have a successful career, spending eight years at Arsenal and captaining the side.

He then returned to his boyhood club but never really established himself in the team before moving back to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Cagigao was also close to bringing Leo Messi and Gerard Pique to the Emirates along with Fabregas.

The scout is highly valued by Wenger, who wants to renew his contract with the north London giants, but perhaps a call from the 10-time Champions League winners would be too hard to resist.
