Real Madrid look set to hand goalkeeper Keylor Navas a new contract to reward him for his fine form, according to reports.

Madrid-based sports daily Marca says the Costa Rican has impressed the Real hierarchy so much that they feel he deserves recognition for his efforts.

The 28-year-old looked to be heading for the exit on transfer deadline day at the end of August as makeweight in the deal that would have seen Los Blancos bring David de Gea from Manchester United to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But that deal collapsed spectacularly at the last minute due to the late arrival of paperwork with the football authorities.

And Navas has gone on to put that episode behind him. From being almost dumped unceremoniously a year after joining he has established himself as the number 1 at the club. So far this season he has conceded just three goals in 12 games and has won many plaudits for his outstanding saves.

Marca does add though that despite a new contract set to be offered before the end of 2015, the club is still hopeful of signing de Gea in the future. The Spain keeper put pen-to-paper on a new four-year deal at Old Trafford after the transfer debacle unfolded.
