Sergio Ramos is set to put an end to this summer of uncertainty by signing a new contract at Real Madrid, according to reports.
The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with Manchester United after reportedly becoming angry with club president Florentino Perez for refusing to meet his wag demands over a new deal. Media outlets had said Ramos wanted parity with the club’s top earners if he were to sign a new contract, which still has two years to run.
But since the pair met for talks while the team was on tour in China, various discussions have taken place via representatives including Ramos’ brother and agent Rene, and the two parties appear to have reached an agreement.
Some media in Spain are suggesting Ramos, who will take over the captaincy of the club from Iker Casillas, will sign his new deal on Thursday. It will keep him at the club until 2020 and will see his salary rise from a basic six million euros a year to nine million euros.
The news will be a relief for new boss Rafa Benitez who will want to go into the new campaign with a united squad ready to wrestle the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles back off Barcelona.
