Charlie Austin suffered a knee injury back in Decemeber and he will be out of the pitches four months. Southampton are struggling since then, athough they qualified to the Final of the EFL Cup after beating again Liverpool in the second leg. The South-England team is looking to reinforce the attacking position as they are having problems to score and they’ve targeted a Real Madrid player.
The Saints were the worst team during Christmas time but now they’ve recovered and they are back in track. The EFL final is a major success for them, as they will travel to Wembley to touch silware for the first time since 2010, when they won the League Trophy.
As we said they want to reinforce the squad and they’ve showed interest in a Real Madrid striker. This is Mariano Díaz, who is not having many opportunities with Zidane and could still leave the club in the winter transfer window. Actually, Mariano was the last substitution in the Copa del Rey game against Celta despite Los Blancos needed to come back.
Although Zidane says he wants Mariano in the squad, the Dominican player is having very few minutes. Actually, he has only played 35 minutes in La Liga. For this reason, Real Madrid are receiving many offers from different clubs, who want him on loan until the end of the season. Sevilla, Valencia, Deportivo de la Coruña, Las Palmas, Espanyol or Eintracht have shown some interest in the striker. But nothing has been done yet.
Accodring to the site fichajes.com, Southampton are now also chasing the Real Madrid forward. The Saints are trying to get Manolo Gabbiadini on board, but Napoli might reject an offer of €16M. Gabbiadini is now having a lot of chances with the Italian team because the Polish striker Milik got injured at the end of the season. However, the Italian hasn’t showed a great performance, so he could be sold to another club. In case Gabbiadini deal fails, Mariano Díaz can be the second choice. Anyway, Real Madrid should think how they want to proceed with the forward, as he has a lot of potential but very few minutes with Zinedine Zidane.
