The injury problems continue at Real Madrid. Just few days after Zinedine Zidane had the full squad available against Valencia, the club has confirmed the injury of Raphael Varane. The French defender will be out of the pitches for 5 weeks due to a muscular problem.
“Following tests carried out today on Raphaël Varane at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 muscle strain in his left hamstring. His recovery will continue to be assessed”, Real Madrid informed in their website.
Therefore the full back will be out of the team 5 weeks and he will miss some important games like the second leg of the Last 16 round in the Champions League against Napoli. In La Liga, Varane will miss the fixtures Las Palmas, Eibar, Betis and Athletic. Luckily, we have the international break at the beginning of April, so he’ll have more time to recover and the French full back should be back by the 8th of April, when Real Madrid face Atlético de Madrid in the derby.
Varane got injured at Mestalla and he was substituted in the 70th minute by Nacho Fernández. Zidane explained in press conference that the substitutions was made because of the injury and not because of the bad performance of the French full back. Actually, Varane lived a nightmare at Mestalla in one of his worst games with the white t-shirt.
Now, Zinedine Zidane has to choose between Nacho Fernández and Pepe to replace Varane. The Portuguese is fully recovered from his injury and he has also played some minutes recently. However, the Spaniard is doing a great season, both as a full back and as a left or right back. Hopefully, the team won’t feel Varane’s absence because Pepe and Nacho are really good replacements.
