La Liga side Villarreal are the favourites to sign Real Madrid man Martin Odegaard on loan next season, according to reports.
The 16-year-old Norwegian wonderkid signed for Los Blancos in a high profile deal in January and has spent most of his time so far featuring for the Real Madrid Castilla side under Zinedine Zidane’s leadership.
He did however make his first team debut for the 10-time Champions League winners on the final day of the season, becoming the youngest player to appear in the top flight in Spain.
While his long-term future is at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club is keen to help his progress by loaning him out next season. Scottish champions Celtic have been mentioned as a possible destination. But the Daily Mail reports Villarreal want to sign Odegaard on a temporary deal next season.
The paper claims the Yellow Submarines are the favourites for his signature as it would mean continuing his professional development in Spain. The El Madrigal side also have a good reputation for giving young players a chance in the first team – something that would appeal to Real Madrid’s coaches as they look to fast track Odegaard into the first team setup in the Spanish capital.
