Real Madrid defender Pepe says the players will do all they can to ensure their fans are happy the Santiago Bernabeu when they take on Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi final.
Los Blancos secured a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening and will try and qualify for the showpiece final next week when they host the Premier League side.
The first half in Manchester was a fairly quiet affair but Real had the better of the chances in the second period and will be disappointed to have failed to find the back of the net.
Talking to journalists after the match, Pepe stated: “In the first half we were weighing each other up, but in the second half we were the stronger side. We knew that we couldn’t afford to make any mistakes. They started strongly, but we dealt with their counter-attacks and we had quite a lot of possession. In the second half, the flow of the game changed, we were the ones calling the shots and constantly going in search of the goal, which unfortunately we didn’t manage to get.”
Discussing the return leg in Madrid, the Portuguese commented: “We showed that as a team we have a lot of character and that we want to go far in the Champions League. There’s one game to come at home and we’re going to win it in front of our own fans to make them happy.”
You are going out city will fight until we are victorious!
