Denis Cheryshev says him and his fellow Real Madrid youth products are ready to be called upon whenever boss Rafa Benitez needs them.
Cheryshev featured in the goalless draw with PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night along with fellow former youth players Lucas Vasquez and Jese Rodriguez.
Speaking to journalists after the game, the 24-year-old Russian international said the players put in a strong performance despite the team missing a number of high profile stars.
“The team put in a focused performance and we had our opportunities, but we didn’t put them away and it’s a good result here. There were periods when we dominated and periods when they dominated, and this can be considered a fair result because it was a pretty even game,” he commented.
He added: “We have to be ready for when we’re called on. Jesé and Lucas had good games and our job is to keep on pushing, have a positive mindset and carry on working hard.”
Speaking about the opposition, he praised PSG as being a strong team with fantastic qualities.
“They’re a fantastic side, they were playing at home with their fans behind them and facing them is always difficult. We put in a focused display at the back, we were really compact, defended well and at the end of the day it’s a good result and we have to follow it up at the Bernabéu.”
