Zinedine Zidane spoke after the game against Valencia, where Los Blancos drew (2-2) at Santiago Bernabéu after missing many chances. The manager was happy about the performance but he regretted the opportunities missed. Unfortunately, Valencia got an important point from Madrid.
“I cannot be happy with the result because the game was excellent. We deserved more, but we cannot win always. I’m very proud of my players and this is the most important thing”, the French manager said after the game.
Zizou spoke about all the opportunities missed during the game: “We didn’t hit the target. We had seven or eight clear chances and we didn’t score. The game was there. We have to keep going and think in the next game”, the manager commented.
Karim Benzema especially missed a lot of chances and the supporters missed Cristiano Ronaldo: “The fans do whatever they like. The most important thing is that he has chances, if he misses it’s not a big deal. Football is that way and sometimes the ball doesn’t want to get in. Whistles? The crowd supported us and do whatever they want”.
Before, the manager was asked how he would welcome Benzema in the dressing room: “With a smile. We have to tell him to keep working. The most difficult thing is to have chances. He didn’t score but he worked a lot and I cannot reproach a player who misses the chances”.
The French coach also spoke about Marco Asensio, who scored two goals and was the man of the match: “I’m happy with his performance and I’m not surprised of what he does. He scored two goals, but the work is global, for all the team. I like to highlight the team. I hope he continues like that, scoring more goals”.
Finally, Zidane spoke about Gareth Bale, who was substituted after another poor performance: “He’s an important player, nothing else. Gareth is Gareth, we count on him, like with everybody. That’s it”, the coach finished.
