Zinedine Zidane celebrated his first anniversary as a Real Madrid coach with a great victory over Sevilla. Los Blancos played one of the best games of the season and got a great result in the Last 16 Round of Copa del Rey.
The victory came without the BBC in the pitch: “Other footballers who don’t play than often were in the pitch, we can change the formation, but the idea is the same. The first 45 minutes were amazing physically and technically, almost perfect. I can tell you it’s a good result for a draw”.
One of the best players on the pitch was James Rodríguez, who confirmed he will stay at Real Madrid the whole season: “He did a good game. He worked, scored two goals, his work has been important, like everybody else. I’m happy for his game. I’m happy for the minutes of Asensio or Morata. Defensively we did a superb game. Now we need to rest”.
Perhaps, we saw on Wednesday the best first half of the season: “I don’t know, but we came in very strong. We worked for this and we did it. The truth is that when you start in this way and you score goals everything is easier. It’s better for the rest of the match”, Zidane said in press conference.
Real Madrid were able to beat Sevilla despite the several injuries and they pressured very high: “We also did it with the BBC and other players. The most important thing is that when you introduce a new player, he always give you something extra. I’m happy because we have a great squad […]. There were some players injured and we can’t change this but when somebody else plays they do it well and the coach is always happy. Obviously, there are some players more important than others, but we are going to win with everybody”.
Zidane also confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be back against Granada: “On Saturday he will play and he’s going to play a lot of game. We don’t have to worry”. Finally, Zidane also spoke about what the team has ahead in 2017: “Starting in this way the year is very important. We spoke about having a lot of pace and we have to keep in this way because it’s going to be a tough year”.
